Learn Tablet Coating from the experts – Episode 1

Introduction

Our digital and interactive Workshop #3! Giving you practical insights from the comfort of your home or workplace.

Information

WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE?

This workshop on tablet film-coating in perforated drum coating equipment is a perfect combination of theory, hands-on training, and demonstrations. The workshop provides the basics of tablet film-coating, and drying, and outlines their applications in the tablet processing industry. This workshop is the perfect investment for those who wish to acquire knowledge of efficient tablet coating.

It is planned to continue this first episode with minimum two more episodes to cover the comprehensive scope of this process technology (subject to change and input from the audience):

Episode 2 (approx. July 2022): Running a process, monitoring the process, interpretation of the actual process data, identifying short-comings, scale-up.

Episode 3 (approx. January/February 2023): Trouble Shooting, Cleaning, Maintenance, PAT

WHO IS THE WORKSHOP DESIGNED FOR

Typically, operators and researchers from the pharmaceutical and related industries will get the most out of this workshop. However, the workshop is also perfectly suitable for those who are looking for a detailed overview of perforated drum coating technology in a short space of time.

BACKGROUND

On the one hand, increasing international competition is forcing companies to optimize their manufacturing and R&D processes. These trends increase quality and efficiency demands especially for the processing of oral solid dose forms as the predominant galenic dosage form. This includes the important step of tablet coating at the end of the manufacturing process.
On the other hand, there are few options to obtain a perfect mix of
theoretical and practical training. We bridge this gap between business and education with our decades of experience in the manufacturing and by the use of production equipment.
What makes our specialized training so special is:

THE UNIQUE HANDS-ON APPROACH.

This workshop aims to elaborate on the advantages and drawbacks of the individual techniques, focusing on the optimal spectrum of each but also considering the economical and practical aspects of manufacturing processes. All speakers are specialized, experienced, and renowned experts from science and industry.

Program for Episode I

  • Welcome and Introduction
  • Principles of tablet film-coating
Introducing the basics of tablet coating focusing on pharmaceutical applications. Giving an insight into theoretical backgrounds, standard manufacturing operations and the general set-up of typical process equipment. Additionally, outlining the required peripheral installations and setup for efficient processes.
    Bernd Looser
  • Q & A
  • Introduction to virtual “HANDS-ON” session Part 1
  • Efficient film-coating to tablet cores
Preparation of the process equipment, small or big charge: Outlining the influence of batch-size on the setup of the spray guns, spray arm, and the exhaust air shoe. Learn how the equipment is set-up and tuned. Understand the most critical part to achieve success: the spray nozzle! Demonstration of how to perform a spray test.
    Wolfgang Dejan & Tom Koenig
  • Q & A
  • Introduction to the most critical excipient for tablet coating: the coating formulation.
  • Optimized film-coating with modern fully formulated film coating systems
The presentation provides the background on objectives for film coating, formulation, design strategies, comparison of the various polymer systems, and their mechanical and physicochemical properties. The different coating applications and customization for troubleshooting are discussed, too. The presentation is completed by an overview of the most important fully formulated coating systems.
    Joerg Croenlein
  • Q & A
  • Introduction to virtual “HANDS-ON” session Part 2
  • Prepare the coating solution
Prepare the coating solution for your tablet coating process. It is more about than simple stirring only! Example of the typical dos and don’ts.
    Tom Koenig & Wolfgang Dejan
  • Q & A
  • Introduction to the next topic “Design Considerations of Equipment”
  • The ideal configuration of the process equipment
Which technical aspects of the equipment are relevant for my process? What are the critical elements? Is the URS the only important “tool”? Reviewing the requirements of process air conditioning, spray-rate measurement, tablet charging, tablet discharging, cleaning & maintenance, multiple purpose equipment, sensors, and process automation, etc.
    Andreas Litzka
  • Q & A
  • Closing remarks. Preview on next seminar, contact information, questionnaire.
